This full-day face-to-face FASD training program provides health-care, allied health, justice, education, out-of-home-care and other professionals with a comprehensive overview of FASD and training in the fundamental skills needed to identify and understand individuals and families impacted by FASD in a range of settings. It also provides a broader framework for understanding and conceptualising individuals with complex neurodivergence with multiple diagnoses such as autism, adhd, oppositional defiant disorder etc.
 
Based on the book "Explained by Brain: A workbook for parents, carers and educators who have 
tried everything or don't know where to start" & "Mind the Gaps: Tools to Map the Needs of Diverse Brains" by Dr Vanessa Spiller and current national and
International research.
 
The training content includes vital information on:
 
FASD in the national and international context
The Australian FASD Indigenous Framework
FASD and symptoms of complex neurodivergence in the real world
How FASD and complex neurodivergence impact everyday functioning
Diagnosis and the roles all professionals can play
Brain domains impacted by prenatal alcohol exposure and implicated in complex neurodivergence
 How to "Ability Map" brain-based domains of functioning and use this as a foundation for understanding and advocacy.
 
Practical exercises and skills will be practised throughout the training, including an introduction to ability mapping.

Dr. Vanessa Spiller is an accomplished Clinical Psychologist with an unwavering commitment to advocating for the needs of individuals impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and other brain-based differences. With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Spiller has become a leading voice in FASD education and interventions across Australia and overseas.

 Equipped with a Masters and PhD in Psychology, Dr. Spiller combines evidence-based approaches with practice-based evidence to offer comprehensive educational programs about FASD and complex neurodivergence as well as therapeutic interventions. Her expertise lies in working collaboratively with organisations, families and people impacted by FASD and complex neurodivergence, ensuring they receive the support and services required to navigate their disability and build on their strengths.
