You will be provided with practical tools to help parents, carers, schools, and the NDIS better understand FASD and the necessary supports and accommodations. Supporting Children with Complex Needs in Out-of-Home Care: Neurodiversity + Trauma
Monday, 9th December 2024
This training is for case workers, support workers and out-of-home care agencies working with children with the highest care needs. These are the kids who have had multiple placement breakdowns and suspensions from school, often leading them to receive periods of intensive 1-to-1 care.
This training will take a unique brain-based perspective to understand these young people and their complex behavioural symptoms such as lying, stealing, sexualised behaviours, and aggression. Moving away from traditional behaviour support approaches, it will explore the brain-based frameworks that give them the best chances of success. Finally, we will explore how to support them best and link them with appropriate services as they leave care.

What have people said about the training?
Professional
"Thank you for, by FAR, the best and most useful talk on FASD that I have heard. Immediately, I feel I have a clearer idea of interventions and direction to go with advocacy, interventions, psycho-education".
"One of the most engaging and valuable presentations I've ever watched. Two hours flew by!!"
Professional
"This training was extremely valuable to me. Previous FASD training I had attended had rendered a sense of powerlessness to help these people within the justice environment. I gained practical and very accessible tools/skills that I feel confident to implement within the corrections space due to the accessibility of the content and forms you have created. I have already recommended this training to my team and other psychologists".
Professional
"This was an amazing workshop and a fascinating area I am keen to explore further".
"Thank you so much for the presentation; it was one of the best I have ever attended. Thank you."

"Dr Vanessa knows exactly what it is like to live with someone with FASD and totally ‘gets it’. What I learnt most is how the 11 areas of the brain are affected by prenatal exposure. It made sense, and I’m a better/ more understanding (foster) parent after doing it!"
"The amount of detail and reality, clearly broken down, is amazing...in appreciation for your wonderful gift of education, I just needed to express gratitude; you've given me the backup I needed."
