With Dr Vanessa Spiller, Clinical Psychologist, FASD Educator, Author, and Parent to a young adult with FASD.

 

This full-day face-to-face FASD training program provides health care, allied health, justice, education, out-of-home care, and other professionals with more advanced skills in understanding and interventions associated with FASD and Complex Neurodivergence. Advanced ability mapping will be used to understand individuals, behavioural symptoms and design more effective supports and accommodations for individuals with FASD and complex neurodivergence.  

 
Based on the book "Explained by Brain: A workbook for parents, carers and educators who have 
tried everything or don't know where to start" & "Mind the Gaps: Tools to Map the Needs of Diverse Brains" by Dr Vanessa Spiller and current national and
International research.
 
The training content includes vital information on:
  Brain-based interventions for FASD
The Explained by Brain framework
 Extending ability mapping to:
Understand the demands of environments and tasks
Understand complex behavioural symptoms, such as aggression, stealing, confabulation, sexualised behaviours, etc
Understand the demands of traditional behaviour management approaches and parenting techniques
Designing more effective interventions, including how to modify the environment, expectations and the implementation of strategies
Intersections with trauma
Effective advocacy with schools, NDIS, Child Protective Services and Justice settings
 
 
Practical exercises and skills will be practised throughout the training, including more advanced ability mapping skills.

Do not enrol in this training if you have not read the book "Explained by Brain" or completed foundational training in FASD and complex neurodivergence with Dr Vanessa Spiller previously. This day builds on skills achieved in the previous training.

Dr. Vanessa Spiller is an accomplished Clinical Psychologist with an unwavering commitment to advocating for the needs of individuals impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and other brain-based differences. With over 20 years of clinical experience, Dr. Spiller has become a leading voice in FASD education and interventions across Australia and overseas.

 Equipped with a Masters and PhD in Psychology, Dr. Spiller combines evidence-based approaches with practice-based evidence to offer comprehensive educational programs about FASD as well as therapeutic interventions. Her expertise lies in working collaboratively with organisations, families and people impacted by FASD, ensuring they receive the support and services required to navigate their disability and build on their strengths.
